GenX, She/Her, Libra AF

The succinct and witty bio goes here doesn’t it? This blog may have several themes, including history, spirituality, feminism, travel, I am creating this and learning as I go, including how to maintain the actual site. Say a prayer to the deity of your choice on my behalf.

Family History

I’m researching a bit of my great-grandparents’ story; they came to the U.S. in 1913-1915 from Sweden and from Finland, met and married. I’ve always been drawn to their story so I’m learning more about the time they were alive (1888-1924 and 1895-1987) and the places they lived (Sölberga, Sweden, Lapvik, Finland, New York, Milwaukee). I occasionally go down a rabbit hole. Sometimes I remember to document it.

Spiritual Practices

Spirituality is important to me and the longer I’m alive, the less certain I am what exactly that means. I grew up in a somewhat religious family, and actually I have a pretty loving experience in my childhood with that. But I have found organized religion too limiting, too human-bound. Like if a human is explaining it, it’s automatically too small. At this point, a force for good, a force of nature, a power that connects me to others is something I define as spiritual, something that opens me up to my own freedom.

General mouthiness, etc.

This doesn’t mean I’m all about love and light and positive vibes, however. My spirituality frequently comes peppered with profanity. As I enter crone-dom, I’m kinda thrilled to care a bit less about what others think and a bit more about what I think is important. Which may sound self-indulgent, but in my experience, women have some wiggle room in this arena (one’s mileage may vary, depending on what other marginalized experiences one may or may not have had - but still, some margin of wiggle room to listen to one’s own voice). In any case, kindness counts; politeness and niceness and keeping the peace? Well, they can can go fuck themselves. All this to say, I may just spout off. I have strongly held opinions about each person having agency over their own body, from childhood on. About certain things being gross and unethical to be for profit like education or medical care or war or the prison system. About no one being unfairly taxed and also no one being unfairly not taxed. About people having the right to express any emotions or develop any character traits or interests - regardless of their gender, or romantic interests, or sexuality.
